FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The No. 19 Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's basketball team fell to No. 7 Indiana Tech on Wednesday night in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Lawrence Tech (23-5, 15-4) jumped out to an early 24-14 lead before the Warriors started to chip away at the lead. Indiana Tech went on a 19-10 run to cut the lead to one, 34-33, at halftime. The Blue Devils trailed the Warriors 7-6 early in the game, but an 11-3 run for Lawrence Tech gave LTU an 18-9 lead with 4:11 remaining in the quarter. Blue Devils closed the quarter with a three from Nicole Buckingham (JR/Saginaw, Mich.) to put LTU up 10 points.
Danielle Hanson (SO/East Lansing, Mich.) scored a team high 11 points in the first half while Hayley Walkowski (SR/Marshall, MI) grabbed eight rebounds and had four points in the first two quarters.
Indiana Tech (27-2, 18-1) opened the third quarter with an 8-0 run to take a 41-34 lead with 7:50 on the clock. Lawrence Tech cut the lead to two at the end of the third with a 5-0 run to make it 51-49, before the Warriors scored three straight points to take a 54-49 lead into the final quarter. Indiana Tech was able to build off their lead in the fourth as they maintained at least a five point lead the entire quarter to win 78-66.
Hanson and Buckingham led the Blue Devils with 16 points each while Teryn Kline (FR/Fort Wayne, IN) scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds in first trip back to her hometown. Walkowski added 11 rebounds and Hanson grabbed eight. Keanna Gary scored a game high 20 points for Indiana Tech. Lawrence Tech shot just 33.3 percent from the field compared to 48.2 percent from the field for Indiana Tech.
Lawrence Tech is now locked in at second place in the WHAC with one game left. They will host a first round game in the WHAC Tournament on Thursday, Feb. 22.
The Blue Devils head to Cornerstone (Mich.) University next to close the regular season. Opening tip is set for 1p.m.
