SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's basketball team defeated Cornerstone (Mich.) University 79-67 on Saturday in Grand Rapids. Lawrence Tech matches the all-time single-season wins mark of 24 with today's win.

Lawrence Tech (24-5, 16-4) won at Cornerstone for just the second time in program history as they jumped out to a 23-14 lead in the first quarter. The Blue Devils lead was enough to take a 45-35 lead into halftime. Lawrence Tech shot 7-for-6 from behind the arc, but Cornerstone reached the line 19 times. The Golden Eagles made all 19 free-throws to stay within 10 at the break as they were 8-for-26 from the field over the first two quarters.

Cornerstone (16-14, 11-9) trimmed the lead to 53-46 4:40 into the third quarter, however a Danielle Hanson (SO/East Lansing, Mich.) steal, offensive rebound, and layup gave LTU a 58-46 lead. A pair of Nicole Buckingham (JR/Saginaw, Mich.) free-throws pushed the lead to 62-47 with 2:44 remaining in the quarter.

Kaitlyn Smith (SO/Holly, Mich.) hit a three to give LTU its largest lead of the game at 17, 79-60 with 3:59 left in the game. Cornerstone ended the game on a 7-0 run, but it was too late to mount a comeback as Lawrence Tech took the win, 79-67.

Buckingham led the Blue Devils with 27 points and seven rebounds while Hayley Walkowski (SR/Marshall, MI) had her third double-double of the season with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Walkowski also finished with a game high seven assists. Cherilyn Banas (JR/Oxford, Mich.) finished with a season high 10 points to go with five assists, and four rebounds.
