Box Score SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The No. 25 Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's basketball team won their third straight game and seven of their last eight as they defeated UM-Dearborn 62-59 on Saturday afternoon at Don Ridler Field House. Danielle Hanson finished the game with her sixth straight double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Lawrence Tech (10-3, 5-1) jumped out to an early lead as they shot 50 percent in the first quarter to take a 26-12 lead after the first 10 minutes. Kaitlyn Smith had eight of the Blue Devils 26 points going a perfect 3-for-3 from the field including 2-for-2 from beyond the arc. Smith opened the game with a layup to put LTU up 2-0 as they started the quarter on a 12-2 run capped by a Hanson three. The Wolverines cut the lead to 15-10 with 4:07 remaining in the first, but an 11- 2 run to close the quarter gave Lawrence Tech the 14-point lead going in to the second quarter.
The Blue Devils extended their lead to 35-12 as Smith capped a 20-2 run with a three pointer. UM-Dearborn cut the down to 12 as they responded with a 18-6 run to make it a 42-30 game at the break. Hanson led the way for Lawrence Tech in the quarter with seven points and four rebounds while Fisher added six points as the Blue Devils shot 46.7 percent from the field. Ro'Zhane Wells led the way for UM-Dearborn in the quarter as she went 4-for-4 from the field and 6-for-7 from the line for 14 points.
Fisher's pair of free throws with 3:48 left in the third quarter gave Lawrence Tech a 54-38 lead with 3:48 remaining in the quarter. Maddy Welch put the Wolverines within 11 as she hit a three in the waning minutes of the third to make it a 57-46 game with 10 minutes left.
The Wolverines had been crawling themselves back in to the game since the first and put it within two at 59-57 as they capped an 11-0 run to start the final quarter. Hope Dollarhide hit one of her two free throw attempts to make a 60-57 game with 2:52 remaining in the game before UM-Dearborn followed with a pair of their own to make it a one-point game at 60-59.
The Wolverines had a chance to take the lead, but a missed three and a Fisher rebound kept the Blue Devils in the lead. Following a missed shot by LTU, the Wolverines got the ball but a steal from Fisher and a couple of Smith free throws put Lawrence Tech up 62-59. UM-Dearborn had one last chance to tie the game as Maricela Macias three pointer was blocked by Smith with three seconds left to seal the win for the Blue Devils.
Fisher led the team in scoring with 19 points to go with her six rebounds while Hanson added 14 points and 11 rebounds. Smith finished the game with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Hope Dollarhide added seven points and three rebounds in 14 minutes off the bench.
The Blue Devils return to action on Saturday, December 21 when they travel to Midland, Mich. to take on Northwood (Mich,) University. Opening tip is set for 1 p.m.
