RV Blue Devils Dominate First and Fourth Quarter to Down Cornerstone 73-48

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological University women's basketball came to play after a snowy morning in Michigan, stunning the Cornerstone Golden Eagles (Mich.) 73 to 48 on Saturday, January 18th. 

The Blue Devils (14-7, 8-3) started off the game on a high note, limiting the Golden Eagles (3-18, 1-10)  to single digits in the first quarter. LTU went 10-18 from inside while Cornerstone only found the basket once out of 13 tries from inside. The rest of the CU points were scored from the line. However, the Golden Eagles battle back, keeping pace with rebounds, grabbing 10. 16 of the 25 points scored in the first were off turnovers made by the Golden Eagles. Teryn Kline grabbed 10 points alone in this period.

The second saw CU coming back to make up for their previous period, including going 53% from inside and limiting the Blue Devils to 11 points. neither team could find their rhythm in this period from the three point line. LTU, though, put two periods on the board of going 100% from the foul line.

Letting off the gas a bit, Lawrence Tech had another close quarter in the third. Kaitlyn Smith opened this quarter with a three point shot, with a Kendall Fisher assist, her fourth thus far on the day. Right after that play, Danielle Hanson grabbed one of her own after a missed shot from Cornerstone. Following a stalemate, the Blue Devils scored a few more points, but were stopped at 14 compared to the CU 13. The Blue Devils again hit all their free throws this quarter.

The fourth quarter is when the Blue Devils heated right back up, mimicking a similar pace as they started with, scoring 22 points to Cornerstone's 12. Four Blue Devils grabbed double digit points in the win, including a 15 point game by Teryn Kline  and the 12 point game from Kendall Fisher, Kaitlyn Smith and Danielle Hanson. Fisher grabbed seven assists while Rachel Price led the team in blocks with two. Smith and Hanson grabbed three steals in the win.

Up next, Lawrence Tech comes back to Southfield for a match-up versus Northwestern Ohio on January 22nd where the game is set to start at 6:00 P.M..
