HOW IT HAPPENED
The Blue Devils obliterated the Warriors in the first quarter, scoring 22 points and limited Rochester to nine. However, things turned around, with Rochester sinking their shots and LTU struggling from the three point line. The Warriors out-scored LTU 25-17 in the second quarter, with LTU going into the half only up 39-34.
The third quarter saw LTU regain their strength. In this quarter Smith turned up the heat, going 4 for 6 from inside and 3 for 5 from the three point line for 11 points. Smith also had two assists in this quarter. While Rochester tied up the game in the third with five minutes to go, LTU streaked ahead with layup from Fisher and a quick jump shot from Danielle Hanson, closing the quarter 63-52.
The fourth saw each team slow down, with low number of shots falling. Neither team could hit above 30% from inside, and LTU went 1 for 9 from outside the three. Despite this waning of strength, LTU pulled out the win and outscored the Warriors 13-11, sealing the game 76-63.
Now, the postseason begins, with LTU hosting UM-Dearborn on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Don Ridler Field House for the first round of WHAC playoffs.
