Box Score SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- The Lawrence Tech Blue Devils returned home to the Don Ridler for a WHAC playoff matchup against the Wolverines of UM-Dearborn on Thursday night in a matchup of three vs. six. The result was the Blue Devils grabbing the victory in front of a packed crowed 63-50 on Thursday night. It was the first postseason win for head coach Grace Howrigon and staff and marked the Blue Devils third win overall in the opening round of the WHAC tournament.
Kicking off the game, the Blue Devils came out hot in the first quarter of the game shooting 7-18 (38.9%) from the field, 2-5 (40%) from three, and 5-6 (83.3%) from the charity stripe taking a commanding 21-7 lead after one quarter. The second quarter was a different scenario for the Blue Devils, who went 7-21 (33.3%) from the field and went 0-4 (0%) from beyond the arc. However, the Wolverines of UM-Dearborn had cut the lead down, going into halftime down 35-20. The Blue Devils would go on to shoot 9-21 (42.9%) from the field, 0-0 (0%) from downtown, and 1-1 (100%) at the charity stripe. As the fourth quarter a rose, the crowd and the fans for the Blue Devils were as loud as ever here is how it went down. Shooting reasonably well on the evening so far, it seemed as if it was going to continue, and that was somewhat the case. The Blue Devils went 4-13 (30.8%) from the field, 1-3 (33.3%) from downtown, and took no shots at the charity stripe in the fourth. Overall the Blue Devils went 27-73 (37%) from the field, 3-15 (20%) struggling from downtown on the night, and going 6-7 (85.7%) from the charity stripe tonight.
The Blue Devils had two scorers in double digits tonight with the sophomore Kendall Fisher (Indianapolis, Indiana) chipping in 22 pts on the night while grabbing 11 rebounds, six steals, and dishing out four assists. Alongside Kendall's efforts was senior Danielle Hanson (East Lansing, Michigan) chipping in 12 pts on the night, grabbing nine boards off of 6-10 shooting. Other Blue Devils to score tonight included senior Kaitlyn Smith with seven points, junior Teryn Kline with four points, senior Rachel Price with eight points, freshman Kylee Batey with eight points, and rounding it out for the Blue Devils senior Hope Dollarhide with two points.
Looking ahead, the Blue Devils will hit the road for the semi-finals of the WHAC playoffs to take on the Saints of Siena Heights. Game time is scheduled for a 6:00 pm tip-off inside the Siena Heights Field House. It will mark the third meeting between the two teams this year with the Saints taking both, including a tough loss for the Blue Devils on senior day. Last time these two teams met in the WHAC playoffs was last season when the Blue Devils knocked the Saints off in Adrian to open up the conference playoffs.
