Box Score Adrian, Mich.- The Lawrence Tech women's basketball team faced an uphill battle on Saturday evening inside the Siena Heights Field House to take on the second-seeded Saints. As the Blue Devils looked to knock off the dominant Saints who are rolling in at 17 this week in the latest NAIA Top 25 poll. The Blue Devils would answer this call facing the Saints for the third time this season; it was bound to happen and that it did. With the Blue Devils leaving Adrian, Michigan with a statement win 71-61 on Saturday evening inside the Siena Heights Field House.
Overall the Blue Devils got back into rhythm as a team offensively shooting 24-56 (42.9%) from the field, going 7-19 (36.8%) from downtown and shooting 16-21 (76.2%) from the charity stripe. In the first quarter, the Blue Devils shot 56.3% from the field while shooting 40.0% from three. While in the second quarter, they shot 20.0% from the field and 25.0% from downtown, however, the third quarter was a different story with the Blue Devils shooting 35.7% from the field and 33.3% from downtown. The fourth quarter was the tell-all tale of the game for the Blue Devils as they shot their best down the stretch they have all season. As the Blue Devils would shoot 63.6% from the field and 50.0% from the three, that was where the Blue Devils would seal the game.
The Blue Devils would hold player of the year, Peyton Banks, to just four points while only allowing one Saint to get into double-digits all game. Meanwhile, the Blue Devils so sophomore Kendall Fisher has another career night scoring 29 points while dishing out five assists and grabbing seven boards, respectively. Another Blue Devil to hit double digits tonight was senior Danielle Hanson, who had 16 points and nine rebounds on the night. Senior Rachel Price ended the night with eight points while fellow senior Kaitlyn Smith finished with six points. Alongside, all of that senior Hope Dollarhide cashed in six points on the night, and freshman Kylee Batey had six points as well.
Looking ahead, the Blue Devils hit the road for the WHAC Tournament Championship looking to knock off the top-seeded Warriors of Indiana Tech, whom the Blue Devils have a current eight-game losing skid too. The Warriors swept the regular season battle between the two teams, including beating the Blue Devils at home back on February 12th, where the Warriors won 79-50. The Blue Devils and Warriors are set to clash on Tuesday, March 3rd, 2020, with tip-off slated for 7:00 pm inside the Schaffer Center in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
Regardless of the outcome on Tuesday night in Ft. Wayne, the Blue Devils, will be heading back to Nationals for the third time in program history. All three coaches for the Blue Devils Women's Basketball team have taken a team to Nationals at some point in their stint here at Lawrence Tech. It will mark the first trip back to Nationals since the 17-18 season in which the Blue Devils were knocked out of the round of 32 losing to Hastings College.
