Big Fourth Quarter Leads Blue Devils to Victory

Southfield, MI - The Lawrence Technological University women's basketball began conference play at home, hosting the Concordia-Ann Arbor Cardinals.

Kendall Fisher led all players with 26 points and three assists. Kylee Batey led all players with career-high 21 rebounds. Julia Huey added nine points.

The Cardinals opened up the scoring with a jump shot and a layup to give them an early 4-0 lead.

A Fisher layup and two Batey free throws sandwiched an Alize Tripp layup, cutting the Cardinals lead down to two.

Mackenzie Howe and Maggie Long traded triples to make it 9-7 Concordia.

Moments later, Gracie Mitchell's trey gave the Blue Devils a 10-9 lead.

Stephanie Abraham would not let LTU keep the led for long, as her layup gave the Cardinals the one-point edge with 2:48 remaining in the first.

A free throw each by Batey and Mitchell reclaimed the lead for the Blue Devils with under two to play.

Zaria Mitchner's basket and-a-foul gave the Cardinals a one-point game, after missing the freebie.

Two Kirstyn Lunniss free throws would give the Blue Devils the lead back before a Fisher triple extended the lead to four to end the quarter.

Blue Devils lead after one, 17-13.

Concordia started the scoring with two Tripp free throws followed by an Abraham three to reclaim the lead.

The next three minutes, both teams went scoreless.

A Long layup gave the lead back to the Blue Devils.

Howe and Jade Faris traded layups, exchanging the one-point advantage each way once more.

Another three-minute dry spell for both teams, before Batey's layup ended the drought, with two minutes left in the half.

The Cardinals ended the half on a mini 4-0 run, a Taylor Leatherman layup and a Tripp buzzer-beating layup to give the visiting Cardinals a lead into halftime.

Cardinals lead 24-23 at half. 

Both teams struggled offensively in the first half, shooting under 30 percent each; LTU shot 26.9 percent from the field, and CUAA shot 26.3 percent.

In the second half, the Cardinals started the scoring once again, with Abrahams' layup extending their advantage to three.

Huey's pull-up jumper brought LTU within one.

A 4-0 run over the next 90 seconds extended the Cardinal lead to five, after a Leatherman free-throw and Tripp three.

Fisher and Asaria Turman would exchange baskets before an 8-0 run by the Blue Devils over the next 2 minutes and change would give them a 35-32 lead.

Tripp's personal 5-0 run reclaimed the Cardinal lead at 37-35.

Three Fisher free throws over the next two possessions would give it back to LTU, 38-37.

Mitchner, Fisher, and Howe scored on the next three possessions allowing the Cardinals to maintain a one-point lead.

Two Fisher free throws gave the Blue Devils the lead once again before it was stripped away by a Julia Hirt triple.

Concordia leads after three, 44-43.

Two quick Abraham buckets gave the Cardinals a 48-43 lead.

A Fisher layup and Huey three knotted the game at 48 apiece.

Tripp flips in a layup, giving CUAA a two-point lead with 6:06 left.

The Blue Devils then preceded to go on a 17-0 run over the next five minutes to give them a 65-50 lead with just over a minute remaining.

A Tripp triple ended the Cardinals scoring, and Fisher answered back with two free throws.

The Blue Devils (2-4, 1-0) continue WHAC play, traveling to Siena Heights on November 13, for a 7 pm tip.
