Second Half Struggles Sink Blue Devils

Southfield, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological University Blue Devils women's basketball team took on the Rochester University Warriors in a battle of WHAC opponents.

The Warriors sailed by the Blue Devils by the final score of 82-62.

Jade Faris led the Blue Devils with 18 points. Kylee Batey added 13 points and a game-high eight boards. Kendall Fisher tacked on 11 and a game-high nine dimes.

How It Happened:

1st Quarter

  • Thompson dishes to Lexey Tobel for three off the opening tip-off to open up the scoring
  • Julia Huey and Fisher knock down back-to-back triples to give LTU a 6-3 lead
  • Two Thompson free throws followed by a Guardiola jumper would give the Warriors the 11-10 lead
  • A Thompson triple gave the Warriors an 18-14 lead 
  • Hannah Reinhold ended the quarter with a layup
  • Warriors led 22-16 after the first

2nd Quarter

  • Tobel starts off the second with a trey 
  • Hannah Erla answered with a triple of her own
  • A Thompson freebie ended a combined minute-and-a-half scoring drought
  • Dominique Evans follows with a layup to limit the margin to three
  • Warriors unleashed a 10-0 run to extend the cushion to 13
  • Fisher's layup and a Maggie Long triple limited the damage a bit, bringing the deficit within 10
  • Fisher made three layups down the stretch, cutting it to 41-39
  • At the half, the Warriors led by two, 41-39

3rd Quarter

  • Sanaya Gregory starts the scoring in the third
  • The Blue Devils went on a 6-2 run to knot it up at 45
  • A 12-0 run for Rochester gave them a lead they would never relinquish
  • Rochester led after three, 65-54

4th Quarter

  • Reinhold's three expanded the Warrior lead to 14
  • Fisher took a hard foul and would miss the remainder of the game
  • An Imari Martin layup pushed the lead to 16
  • Back-to-back Huey threes diminished the RU advantage to 10
  • Rochester uncorked a 9-0 run over the next three minutes
  • Natalie Nowakoski trey gave RU an 82-61 advantage
  • Paris Robinson made a free throw to end the scoring
  • Rochester defeated Lawrence Tech 82-62

By the Numbers:

  • Rochester scored 34 points off 24 Lawrence Tech turnovers
  • LTU added 19 points of 17 Rochester transgressions
  • Rochester had 10 more free throw attempts than Lawrence Tech (18-8)
  • Lawrence Tech was held to 2-of-11 (18.2 percent) shooting in the fourth quarter after traling by nine heading into the frame

The Blue Devils (4-6, 3-2) will travel to Adrian this weekend to be a part of the Siena Heights Thanksgiving Classic Tournament, where they will take on Shawnee State on Saturday, November 27 at 2 pm.
