Saints Stymie Blue Devils

Southfield, MI - The Lawrence Technological University women's basketball team hosted Siena Heights in WHAC play.

Siena Heights came away with a 73-58 victory. Sha'kyia Parker led all players with 27 points. Kendall Fisher tallied 26 points and nine rebounds, leading the Blue Devils.

How it Happened:

1st Quarter

  • Allye Minor's free throw starts off the scoring
  • A 6-0 run by LTU gave them a 6-1 lead
  • An Ava Alcock layup jumpstarted a 10-point unanswered streak for the Saints, leading to a Blue Devils timeout
  • Following the timeout, Dominique Evans cut the Saints cushion to just three
  • Parker's four free throws closed out the first
  • Siena Heights 15, Lawrence Tech 8 after one

2nd Quarter

  • Maggie Long cuts the advantage to five to open the quarter
  • Anaya Powell's jumper kicked off a 9-0 run for SHU
  • A personal 5-0 run by Fisher brought the game within 10
  • Following two Natalie Tucker free throws, Fisher had another six straight for the Blue Devils to cut the Saints lead to six 
  • Peyton Banks' three made it 34-23 SHU
  • Kylee Batey finds Evans for a jumper to close out the half
  • Saints led 34-25 at the break

3rd Quarter

  • E'Anna Won's triple started the half
  • Jade Faris answered back with a layup-and-one
  • Banks and Huey trade threes, keeping the scoring even
  • A 6-0 Saints run was halted by a Long triple, followed by a Batey layup
  • Parker's three off a Won dime put the Saints up by 16
  • Fisher's jumper followed by a steal and a freebie clawed the Blue Devils within 11
  • Won's layup ends the third, giving Siena Heights a 57-44 lead

4th Quarter

  • After two minutes of scoreless play, Fisher knocks down a trey to start the fourth quarter scoring
  • A Fisher layup inched the game within single digits, at eight, leading to a Saints timeout
  • Out of the timeout, the Saints go on a 10-3 run over the next four-and-a-half minutes
  • Addie Nagel's bucket-and-a-foul drew the Blue Devils within 12, but that would be as close as they got
  • Gracie Mitchell's three stopped a 4-0 mini-run by Siena Heights
  • Madison Hamilton would go on to close the game out with two free throw
  • Siena Heights takes down Lawrence Tech 73-58

 

By the Numbers

  • The Blue Devils were 5-of-24 (20.8 percent) from downtown, where the Saints shot 8-of-17 (47.1 percent) from distance. 
  • The free throws were 19-of-23 (82.6 percent) for SHU and 9-of-13 (69.2 percent) for LTU

 

The Blue Devils (10-11;6-6) will take on the Concordia Cardinals on January 19 at Cardinal Fieldhouse in Ann Arbor for a 5:30 pm tip.
