Warriors Power Past Blue Devils

Rochester, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological University women's basketball team traveled to Rochester to take on the Warriors in WHAC play.

Rochester came away with a 66-52 victory. Elysia Mattos led all scorers with 20 points. Kylee Batey led the Blue Devils with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

How it Happened:

 1st Quarter

  • Lauren Wynn starts the game off with a jumper, off a Jacara Thompson dime
  • Kendall Fisher lays it in to tie the game at two
  • Mattos and Batey trade buckets
  • Wynn starts a 6-0 run, leading to an LTU timeout
  • Following the timeout, Faith Terry makes a free throw then a layup to extend the lead to nine
  • Dominique Evans hits one from the stripe to cut it to eight
  • Thompson's scoop and score made the Warriors lead 10
  • The Blue Devils end the quarter on a 5-0 run, thanks to Jade Faris' layup from Batey and a Batey steal-turned-three
  • Rochester leads 17-12 after the first

2nd Quarter

  • Fisher's layup cut the deficit to three to open the second quarter
  • Free throws by Mattos and Terry extends the cushion to six
  • Maggie Long drains one from downtown to whittle it back down to three
  • Back-to-back layups gave RU a nine-point lead, forcing an LTU timeout
  • Six unanswered by LTU brought the game within four points
  • Krystal Rice ends the half with two freebies
  • Rochester 36, Lawrence Tech 30 at half

3rd Quarter

  • Terry's layup opened the second-half scoring
  • Julia Huey knocked down a triple
  • Batey's layup-and-one pulled the Blue Devils within two
  • Mattos' personal 5-0 run gave RU a 43-36 lead
  • Victoria Guardiola finds Hannah Reinhold for three
  • Mattos finds Reinhold for another three, forcing an LTU timeout
  • Fisher's triple made it a 10-point game
  • Reinhold and Gracie Mitchell trade pairs of free throws
  • Fisher makes one from the charity stripe to end the quarter
  • Rochester leads 54-45 after three

4th Quarter

  • The Blue Devils start the fourth with a 6-0 spurt
  • Back-to-back layups gave the Warriors a 58-51 lead
  • Fisher hits a free throw to cut the deficit to six
  • Rochester ends the game on an 8-0 run over the last 3:37
  • Warriors defeat the Blue Devils 66-52

By the Numbers

  • Rochester outscored Lawrence Tech 30-18 in the paint
  • Rochester forced 23 Lawrence Tech turnovers, scoring 18 points off those turnovers
