Box Score ANN ARBOR, Mich.--Lawrence Tech gave the co-leaders in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference women's basketball standings all they could handle on Saturday afternoon, but Concordia (Michigan) outscored the Blue Devils 35 to 28 in the second half to hold off the visiting Blue Devils, 59-51, at the CUAA Cardinals Fieldhouse. The Blue Devils fall to 2-6 overall and 2-4 in the WHAC, while the Cardinals improve to 7-2 on the season and 6-0 in the conference.
Lawrence Tech Highlights
- Sophomore Kate Jacobs recorded a double-double with a team-leading 12 points on 5-for-7 field goal shooting and game-best 11 rebounds before fouling out.
- Freshman DeDe Smith (3 rebounds, 2 steals) contributed 10 points off the bench.
Concordia (Mich.) Highlights
- Taylor Leatherman led all scorers with 22 points and also had a game-high four assists.
- Abby Long and Brooke Brauher also scored in double-digits with 11 apiece.
- Leatherman led the team with nine rebounds as the Cardinals held a 32-28 rebounding edge over the Blue Devils.
How it Happened
- The Cardinals made 18 of 25 free throw attempts for 72.0 percent while the Blue Devils went 14 of 22 for 63.6 percent, and Concordia's bench outscored LTU's 20-14.
- After LTU senior Dominique Evans (9 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists) made a layup with 6 minutes and 46 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Concordia used a 7-1 mini-run to turn a 46-41 lead into a 53-42 cushion at the 3:15 mark. The 11 points was the biggest lead of the day for either team and LTU couldn't recover.
- Lawrence Tech enjoyed its biggest lead of six points, 10-4, on a Smith layin with 5:33 left before eventually ending the first quarter with a 12-9 advantage.
- The teams continued to play a close game in the second quarter with neither side holding more than a seven-point lead. Two free throws by Leatherman made the score 23-16 in Concordia's favor with 3:10 on the clock before LTU ended the first half on an 7-1 run to trail just 24-23 at the intermission.
