Slow Start Stumps Women's Basketball at Siena Heights, 71-44

Dominique Evans led Lawrence Tech with 14 points

Box Score ADRIAN, Mich.--Senior Dominique Evans scored 14 points and freshman DeDe Smith pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds, but the Lawrence Tech women's basketball team couldn't overcome a sluggish start in the first half in a 71-44 defeat at the hands of host Siena Heights on Saturday evening at the SHU Field House on Coach Fred Smith Court.

The Blue Devils drop to 7-10 on the season, including a 5-6 mark in the Wolverine–Hoosier Athletic Conference, while the host Saints have won 14 games in a row to up their overall record to 14-2 and 9-1 in the WHAC.

Lawrence Tech Highlights
  • Evans also had a team-high three assists.
  • For Smith (7 points), it was the second straight game she set a personal record for rebounds; she had nine versus Madonna.
Siena Heights Highlights
  • Kayla Hinton (4 assists, 6 steals) led all scorers with 17 points, followed by E'Anna Won with 15 and Olivia DeLong had 10.
  • Jakarri Alven and DeLong (2 blocks, 3 steals) both had nine rebounds.
How it Happened 
  • The Saints held leads of 18-9 after the first quarter and 36-14 at halftime as the Blue Devils couldn't get on track.
  • Lawrence Tech, which held a brief 2-0 lead, couldn't get the deficit under 15 points in the second half.
  • The Saints were held to a .386 field goal percentage, but the Blue Devils also struggled at .298.
  • Siena Heights outrebounded LTU 42-30 and also made one more free throw (22) than the Blue Devils attempted (21).
Beyond the Boxscore
  • Siena Heights leads the all-time series 16-9 including five straight wins over LTU.
  • Lawrence Tech has allowed just one opponent--Indiana Tech on Nov. 29 (.527)--to shoot 50 percent or better from the field this season.
  • As a team, LTU ranks third in both WHAC field goal percentage defense (.370) and three-point percentage (.266).
