Box Score SYLVANIA, Ohio--The Lawrence Tech women's basketball team almost overcame a 15-point deficit in its first game of the 2024 calendar year, but the Blue Devils' valiant comeback fell short at Lourdes, 65-62, on Wednesday at the Russell J. Ebeid Recreation Center. The visiting Blue Devils drop to 5-9 on the season, including a 3-5 mark in Wolverine–Hoosier Athletic Conference play, while the Gray Wolves up their overall ledger to 5-7 and 3-4 in the WHAC.
Lawrence Tech Highlights
- Junior Maggie Long led the team with 12 points and she had three rebounds.
- Senior Dominique Evans added 11 points on 5 of 6 field goal shooting, with three rebounds and two steals.
- Senior Jade Faris (9 points) and sophomore Kate Jacobs (8 points) led LTU with nine rebounds each.
Lourdes Highlights
- Shae Pedroza led all scorers with 22 points on 6-for-12 from the field, including 4-of-8Â from the arc, and 6-for-6 at the free throw line. She also had five rebounds and two assists.
- Halle Barnett had a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
- Macie Stringfellow (8 points, 6 rebounds) had a game-best four steals.
How it HappenedÂ
- Lourdes, which led the entire game, opened with a 15-2 cushion. Pedroza keyed the hot start with nine points over the opening four minutes of the first quarter.
- Lawrence Tech, however, fought back over the final 2 minutes and 58 seconds to close within 17-15 on a 13-2 run. The Blue Devils used the 3ball--two from fifth-year senior Julia Huey (9 points) and Jacobs--to get back into the game.
- In the second quarter, the Gray Wolves jumped out quickly to a 33-18 advantage with 3:20 to go. But this time, the Blue Devils couldn't recover.
- Lourdes went into halftime up 37-26.
- In the second half, Lourdes held a three-possession lead for much of the third quarter and led 50-42 going into the fourth.
- Lawrence Tech continued to fight but just ran out of time. The Blue Devils erased a 12-point deficit, 56-44, with 7:55 to go and trailed only 63-62 on a Long three-pointer with 39 seconds left.
- After a jumper in the lane by Pedroza with 11 seconds on the clock, Huey had a chance to tie it 65-all but her three-point attempt was no good and Lourdes' Nakiya Sigman grabbed her only rebound of the night with 4 seconds left to preserve the victory.
- For the game, LTU made 11 of 16 free throw attempts for 68.8 percent. Lourdes outrebounded LTU, 47-36, and made five more field goals.

- Lawrence Tech leads the all-time series, 17-5, including an 8-4 record on the road.
- In 14 games, LTU has allowed just one opponent to shoot 50 percent or better from the field in 2023-24.
