Box Score LIVONIA, Mich.--The Lawrence Tech women's basketball team overcame a four-point deficit in the second overtime when senior Jade Faris sank the go-ahead free throw with 10 seconds left to lift the Blue Devils to a thrilling 88-87 victory over host Madonna in the regular-season finale for both schools at the Alliance Catholic Credit Union Arena at the PAAAC on Saturday.

With the win, Lawrence Tech improves to 12-16 on the season and 10-12 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference and clinches the seventh seed in next week's WHAC Tournament. The Crusaders end their campaign at 10-18 overall and 6-16 in conference play.

Faris scored her 15th point of the game on a front-end free throw of a double-bonus with 6 seconds remaining in double overtime to seal the win. LaZae Mosley (10 points) got the defensive rebound and fed to Kayiona Willis (14 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists), who pushed the ball to halfcourt where she heaved a shot attempt that fell short.

Lawrence Tech sophomore Kate Jacobs poured in a career-best 24 points (9-18 FGs, 6-8 FTs) to lead all scorers, followed by fifth-year senior Julia Huey (7-12 FGs, 6-11 3FGs) with 20 points, senior Dominique Evans (4 assists) had 11 and freshman DeDe Smith, 10.

Faris (6 assists) helped LTU dominate the glass (51-32) with a career-high 21 rebounds to tie the school record established by Kylee Batey on Nov. 10, 2021 against Concordia (Michigan). Evans added nine while Smith and Jacobs both pulled down eight.

Aaliyah McQueen led Madonna with 22 points, five rebounds, two blocked shots and three steals before fouling out after 26 minutes of action.

Lawrence Tech had a chance to win the contest in the first overtime, but Madonna created a turnover and Keairra Jennings (20 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals) long-range shot with 2 seconds left was off the mark. The score was 81-81 going into the second five-minute session.

Evans' three-point attempt from the left wing would have given LTU the win at the buzzer in regulation. The Blue Devils overcame a five-point deficit, 57-52, in the fourth quarter and Jacobs' layup with 66 seconds left forced overtime.

Madonna led 16-12 after the first quarter, but LTU enjoyed a 14-point lead, 30-16, thanks to reeling off 18 unanswered points to begin the second. Huey drained three treys to key the spark that lasted until 4 minutes and 17 seconds remaining.

The Crusaders returned the favor with a 14-2 scoring run to pull within 32-30 at the halftime break. Madonna used 22 LTU turnovers to outscore the Blue Devils 22-8 in points off turnovers to stay in the game, which featured 17 ties and 16 lead changes.

Lawrence Tech draws Siena Heights in a No. 7 versus No. 2 seed matchup in the WHAC Quarterfinals at Adrian next Wednesday.
