VIERA, Fla. - The Lawrence Tech softball team headed out to Viera, Florida for their spring training in the Space Coast Classic on Sunday. The Blue Devils faced Florida National in game 1 falling 3-1 and New College of Florida in game 2 1-0 in their final day at the Space Coast Classic. Lawrence Tech is now 10-12 on their season. Â Â Â
Game 1:
Florida National scored early in the second inning to take the lead. The Blue Devils tied it up in the third inning with a hit from sophomore Chloe Hug singled, scoring freshman Abby Gardner. Florida National scored two more runs in the seventh inning. Hug had two hits, sophomore Alyssa Bloomfield, freshman Ashlyn Bloomfield, and junior Lily Morrissette all had a hit. Sophomore Mikayla Timm pitched for the Blue Devils, allowing 2 hits for Florida National and 1 run scored. Timm struck out 2 Florida National players in 5 innings pitched. Freshman Jocelyn Hall closed out the game allowing 4 hits and 2 runs scored in 2 innings pitched.       Â
Game 2:
The Blue Devils scored the one and only run of the game in the fifth inning with a hit from junior Chloe Carpenter which scored junior Larissa Mercado. Freshman Zoey Markey hit a triple and a single, freshman Ashlyn Bloomfield had 2 hits, sophomore Chloe Hug, sophomore Alyssa Bloomfield, Mercado, and Carpenter all had a hit. Freshman Sarah Basket pitched for the Blue Devils, allowing 2 hits for the Mighty Banyans and 0 runs scored. Basket struck out 5 Mighty Banyans in 7 innings pitched.Â

The Blue Devils are back in action on Saturday at Calumet College of St. Joseph for a double header at 1 and 3pm est.Â
