Lawrence Tech Tennis Drops Home Match against Bethel, Highlights Strong Singles, Doubles Performances

| By:

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. — Lawrence Tech's Blue Devils tennis program came away with several standout individual performances despite team setbacks against Bethel University on Saturday, as the men fell 6-1 and the women dropped a 5-2 decision. The Blue Devils earned key wins in both singles and doubles play, showcasing depth and competitiveness throughout the lineup.

On the men's side, Lawrence Tech secured its lone team point with a strong effort at both doubles and singles. The pairing of Takuga King and Carlos Patricio delivered the Blue Devils' highlight in doubles, earning a 6-3 victory to give the team early momentum. Their win demonstrated effective communication and aggressive net play against a solid Bethel duo.

In singles, Augustustin Patte provided Lawrence Tech's other bright spot by claiming a straight-sets win, 6-3, 6-4. Patte's performance anchored the Blue Devils in the men's lineup, as he controlled rallies and closed out crucial games under pressure. While Bethel ultimately claimed the remaining courts to secure the 6-1 team result, Lawrence Tech's success from Patte and the King–Patricio doubles team underscored the squad's ability to compete at a high level.

The women's match followed a similar pattern, with Lawrence Tech producing multiple strong individual showings in a 5-2 team loss. In doubles, the Blue Devils were narrowly edged in a tightly contested match, as the team of Jackie Alcocer and Miriam McCormick fell 7-5 in a close battle. The narrow margin reflected how competitive Lawrence Tech was at the top of the women's doubles lineup, pushing Bethel deep into the set before the hosts were able to close it out.

Lawrence Tech responded well in singles, where the Blue Devils captured two straight-sets victories. Isabella Aray turned in a consistent performance to win 6-3, 6-4, using steady baseline play to keep control of her match. Joining her in the win column was Paola Herrera, who matched that scoreline with a 6-3, 6-4 victory of her own. The twin results highlighted the strength in the middle of Lawrence Tech's women's lineup and provided important building blocks despite the overall team score.

Although both the men's and women's teams came up short in the final tallies, the Blue Devils left the match with several positives, particularly in the way key players handled tight situations and closed out sets. With competitive doubles efforts and multiple straight-sets singles wins, Lawrence Tech showed signs of growth that can carry into the remainder of the schedule. The Blue Devils will look to build on these individual performances as they continue nonconference play and prepare for upcoming matches later in February.
