Brad Roth

Brad Roth will begin his 1st season on staff with Lawrence Tech, having spent the last 10 years (2013-2023) coaching at Homer High School, serving mainly as the pitching coach during his tenure, while serving as head coach the past three seasons.

During Roth’s time at Homer, the Trojans recorded over 300 wins, averaging over 30 wins per season, while winning seven Conference titles, five District Championships, three Regional Championships, and a State Championship in 2019. Roth had the privilege of helping develop 17 All-State players, including three pitchers during his time at Homer. Nine players went on to play in the collegiate ranks.

Prior to his time at Homer, Roth spent 8 years (2005-2012) at Spring Arbor University where he served as an assistant coach for the Cougars. Roth served as the co-scouting director, while working primarily with the “special teams” components of the offense, including base running. On the defensive side, Roth coached the outfielders and assisted with the hitters. Roth was also involved in the oversight and coordination of both the winter and summer youth camps at SAU.

During Roth’s time at SAU, Cougar teams hold 6 of the top 10 seasons for stolen bases in a season, including the school record (133).Cougar players coached by Roth hold 6 of the top 10 spots for stolen bases in a season (33), as well as 6 of the top 10 career leaders for
stolen bases.

The 2007 season saw the Cougars win 36 straight games, while the ’07 & ’08 teams won 48 and 40 games respectively for an overall two-year record of 88-14, leading the nation in winning percentage during that span. During this time, Roth assisted in leading the program to two trips to the NAIA World Series in Lewiston, Idaho, including finishing as the National Runner-Up in 2007. The Cougars also appeared in three NCCAA National Championships, including a National Runner-Up finish in 2006. During his time at SAU, Roth helped the program to win 268 games, averaging 33 wins a season.

Prior to his tenure at SAU, Roth started his teaching and coaching career at Battle Creek Lakeview High School where he coached for 10 years, with the last 4 as the varsity head coach. During his time as head coach, the Spartans won over 85 games, averaging over 21 wins per season, while winning three District Titles and one Regional Title. Roth was named the City Coach of the Year three times and Regional Coach of the Year one time. Roth also had the privilege of helping develop one all-state player, while helping send eight players on to the collegiate ranks.

Roth is a graduate of Spring Arbor University where he earned his bachelor's Secondary Education. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Exercise Sports Science from Western Michigan University.

Roth played collegiately for four years at Spring Arbor University, from 1990 to 1993. Under the direction of legendary head coach, Hank Burbridge, the Cougars qualified for two NAIA World Series (1991 and 1992) and won two NCCAA World Series Titles (1992 and 1993).

Roth has continued his career in education, as both a teacher and currently as the Athletic Director at Homer Community Schools. Brad is married, has two adult children and one grandchild.
