SOUTHFIELD, MI - The Lawrence Technological University women's soccer team continued its defensive dominance, this time against the Roosevelt University Lakers on Aug. 20, allowing just six shots on goal in a 5-2 victory.
Offensively, it was a slow start for the Blue Devils until freshman Nicole Propst (Warren, MI) capitalized on a well-positioned pass across the box from midfielder Hannah Huff (Waterford, MI) in the 32nd minute. The Lakers answered six minutes later by squeezing the ball between goalkeeper and post to tie the game at the half.
In the second half, it was all Blue Devils. First, Propst found an open net following a rebound off Roosevelt's goalkeeper Olivia Cain. It was Propst again in the 74th minute to complete the three-goal hat trick. Midfielder Danae Dicicco (Grosse Pointe, MI) assisted on Propst's third goal.
The Lakers would find the back of the net one more time after a bad bounce resulted in an own-goal by LTU. Less than two minutes later, LTU sophomore Claire Huddas (Canton, MI) captured her first goal of the season on a one-touch pass from Propst. A rocket from Huff well beyond the 18-yard box sealed the deal for the Blue Devils in the 81st minute.
In the end, Lawrence Tech filled the box score - outshooting Roosevelt and controlling corner kick opportunities, 7-2.
The Lady Blue Devils are now 2-0. Cleary University visits campus on Aug. 21 to begin its inaugural season against LTU at 6 p.m.
