Blue Devils cruise past Michigan-Dearborn, 3-0 for season sweep

DEARBORN, Mich. - Lawrence Tech volleyball regained top form as they swept the University of Michigan-Dearborn, 3-0 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) action on Oct 22. The Blue Devils have now defeated the Wolverines in three straight contests dating back to last season, winning nine of ten sets.

Lawrence Tech (11-17, 5-11 WHAC) jumped out to a 4-1 lead behind Mary Armstrong (JR/Lakeland, MI) and Kasey Clark (SR/Sacramento, CA) kills. The Blue Devils maintained its lead as they went on a 10-3 run before the Wolverines battled back to make it, 23-17. Lawrence Tech went on to win the first set, 25-19. Armstrong finished the set with five kills while Clark added four kills.

In set two, the Blue Devils took a 12-7 lead on Michigan-Dearborn before generating a 7-0 run. Lawrence Tech finished the set on a 5-0 scoring run to lead the match, 2-0.

LTU built a 14-8 lead in the third set before the Wolverines fought back to cut it to 20-19 on a Megan Ynclan service ace. The Wolverines tied it at 24-24, however a Delaney Large (JR/Sarnia, Ont) kill and a Michigan-Dearborn error gave the Blue Devils a 26-24 win and a 3-0 match victory to complete the season sweep.

The Blue Devils finished the match with a .247 hitting percentage on 31 kills and 13 errors. Lawrence Tech held a 13-4 advantage in service aces and kept Michigan-Dearborn to a .092 hitting percentage.

Lawrence Tech is off to the two-day ACC Classic in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Friday, Oct. 24 starting at 5pm against Rochester College (Mich.) followed by an 8pm match against William Penn University (Iowa).
