Grand Rapids, Mich. - After nine one-goal loss games to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) opponents, the Lawrence Tech men's soccer team capture its first WHAC win, upending Aquinas College (Mich.) 2-1 on Oct. 8. The Blue Devils now have five wins - one more than its first two seasons combined, with seven games remaining in the season.

Forward Justin Ritchey (SR/Willis, MI) put LTU on the board early, scoring in the 10th minute on an unassisted goal. 20 minutes later, it was Ritchey finding the back of the net again for his eighth goal of the year - a new career-high.

The Saints cut the deficit to one following a Joe Malecke goal in the 33rd minute. However, Ritchey's second goal would turn into the eventual game-winner as the Blue Devils held Aquinas to only one shot on net in the second half.

Ritchey finished the match with two shots, two goals, and one game-winner - third of the season. Justin Pilarski (JR/Royal Oak, MI), Jon Rice (SO/Novi, MI), and Nick OBrien (SO/Westland, MI) each added a shot for LTU. Blue Devil keeper Joey Knoff (SO/Midland, MI) collected five saves in 90 minutes of action for his fourth win in eight games.

For Aquinas, Peter Brandenburg and Matt Jackson led with a team-high four shots each. Maclecke scored the lone Saints goal on two shots. Goalie Kyle Hibbard allowed two goals on five shots.
