Game Preview: Men' Soccer host Marian in non-conference play

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Tech men's soccer team hosts Marian (Ind.) University on Saturday, Sept. 19 on the LTU Athletic Field at 4pm.

Lawrence Tech (4-2) had won four of its first five games before dropping its second game of the season to the University of Saint Francis (Ind.) on Sept. 13, 3-1. Tyler Jugon (SO/Clawson, MI) scored the lone goal for the Blue Devils on a penalty kick in the second half. Josh Lance (SR/Traverse City, MI) started in net and faced seven shots on goal, making four saves.

The Blue Devils rank 29th in the NAIA in shots on goal per game (8.83), 32nd in total goals (15), 41st in total saves (32), and 42nd in goals per game (2.5).

Justin Ritchey (SR/Willis, MI) leads all Lawrence Tech players with two game winning goals and ranks 11th in the NAIA in that category. Ritchey also ranks 27th in total goals (5), 36th in goals per game (0.830), and 47th in total points (11).

Ritchey has a team high five goals this season followed by newcomers Matt Gibiec (FR/Saint Joseph, MI) and Nicholas OBrien (SO/Westland, MI) who both have three goals this season. Joey Knoff (SO/Midland, MI) has started four games and is 3-1 in those starts with 23 saves and four goals allowed.

Marian (3-2-1) got off to a great start this season as they opened the 2014 campaign with a 3-1-1 record. The Knights dropped their last game to Oakland City (Ind.) University 4-1 on Sept. 17. Sterling Steadham had the only goal for Marian, his fourth of the season.

Nic Henderson leads the Knights with six goals and an assist, while Larz Coy has a team high three assists and two goals. Jose Garcia has recorded a goal and an assist in his six starts this season. Henderson ranks 12th in total goals (6) in the NAIA and 16th in goals per game (1.00).

Dalton Mudd has started three games in net and has allowed seven goals while making 11 saves. Caleb Gmyrek started the other three games for the Knights, making seven saves, allowing only five goals.
