PONTIAC, Mich. - The Lawrence Tech women's soccer team defeated Rochester College (Mich.) 1-0 in overtime at Ultimate Soccer in Pontiac, Mich., on Friday evening. The win puts Lawrence Tech (3-2) back on the winning track after dropping a pair of games at home. The Blue Devils are now 3-0 on the road this season.
The Blue Devils outshot Rochester 5-1 in the first half with Claire Huddas recording three of the team's five, including a free kick that Warrior goalkeeper Angela Mancini bobbled but kept from crossing the goal line.
Mancini made two saves while Kaylee Khoshaba had the lone shot for Rochester in the first 45 minutes.
Lawrence Tech continued to take shots towards the net early in the second half with Sarah Britain (SO/Kalamazoo, MI) and Celeste Scott (SO/Dryden, MI) both going wide of the Warriors net to keep the game scoreless. The Blue Devils kept pushing the tempo getting shot after shot towards the net, but could not put it pass the keeper as the game went into overtime.
The Blue Devils outshot the Warriors 8-3 in the second half with two being on frame in regulation time.
Lawrence Tech finally hit pay dirt as Britain struck a corner kick to a waiting Hannah Huff (JR/Waterford, MI) who volleyed it into the back of the net - giving the Blue Devils a 1-0 in the 98th minute. The goal was Huff's first of the season.
Three Blue Devils finished the game with three shots each - Lisa Zaffina (JR/Waterford, MI), Huff, and Huddas - while goalkeeper Heather Derstine (SO/Midland, MI) made one save on seven shots in a shutout effort.
Rochester recorded one shot on goal while giving up seven fouls in the 1-0 loss. Mancini made three saves in the game.
Lawrence Tech is back in action on Sept. 13 when they travel to Mount Vernon, Ohio for a match against Mount Vernon Nazarene University at 2 pm.
