GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological University (LTU) women's soccer team lost 5-1 to Davenport University (Mich.) on Wednesday afternoon in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Lawrence Tech (4-8, 1-4 WHAC) fell behind early, as Davenport scored two goals in 90 seconds 28 minutes into the game. The Panthers' Alayna Hilgendorf scored the first of her four goals 28:24 into the first half. Shameeka Fishley, on an assist from Hilgendorf, made it 2-0 at 29:43 of the first.
The Blue Devils were outshot in the first half, 11-1, while Heather Derstine (JR/Midland, MI) made five saves in the first 45 minutes.
LTU cut the lead to 2-1 when Lisa Zaffina (SR/Waterford, MI) scored an unassisted goal in the 55th minute, however Davenport (4-7-1, 1-5 WHAC) answered with three goals of their own. Hilgendorf scored all three, notching her second goal of the game in the 67th minute and her third goal in the 70th minute. Hilgendorf made it 5-1 in the 82nd minute to give the Panthers their first WHAC win of the season.
Zaffina led the way for the Blue Devils scoring a goal on four shots, with Derstine five saves on 10 shots.
Lawrence Tech is back on the pitch Saturday, October 17 at 12:30 p.m. when they host Madonna University (Mich.) at the LTU Athletic Field.
