LTU defeats Madonna 3-1 on Friday Afternoon

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological University (LTU) men's soccer team used two second half goals to down Madonna University (Mich.) 3-1 on Friday afternoon at LTU Athletic Field. The win was the first over the Crusaders in program history.

Lawrence Tech (7-6-1, 3-3-1 WHAC) now has seven wins on the season including three Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) victories, both surpassing last seasons' win totals.

The Blue Devils' Mateus Meira (JR/Rio de Janiero, Brazil) scored the opening goal in the fourth minute, getting it past Madonna goalkeeper Jeff Wielczoploski to give LTU a 1-0 lead. Zack Whatcott (SR/Lapeer, MI) had the assist on the goal.

Madonna tied the game at 1-1 in the 22nd minute as Strahinja Ljubevic beat Joey Knoff (SR/Midland, MI) on the right side.

Lawrence Tech finished the first half with four shots compared to three by Madonna.

In the second half, Lawrence Tech scored two unanswered goals as Santiago Amigo (FR/Madrid, Spain) scored off a header from a Derek Butcher (JR/DeWitt, MI) corner kick. A minute later, Chris Serwatka (FR/Troy, Mich.) placed a free kick in the near corner of the net, beating Wielczoploski for a 3-1 lead.

Lawrence Tech is back on the pitch when they travel to Lima, Ohio for a 4 p.m. match with 5th-ranked University of Northwestern Ohio on October 21.
