SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological University (LTU) women's volleyball team swept Concordia University - Ann Arbor (Mich.) 3-0 on Wednesday night at Don Ridler Field House.
Lawrence Tech (7-18, 4-8 WHAC) was led by Mary Armstrong (SR/Commerce Twp, MI) with 21 kills, Lexi Szymoniak (FR/Onaway, Mich.) with 12 digs, Josie Queary (JR/Midland, MI) with 37 assists, and Makenna Strunk (FR/Northville, Mich.) with four service aces.
The Blue Devils jumped out to an 18-12 lead in the first set as they went on a 7-4 run to take the set 25-16. Lawrence Tech took the second set following a 10-3 run, 25-18 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set, Concordia took a 10-6 lead, before LTU battled back to take an 18-17 lead. The Cardinals and Blue Devils would go back and forth until Concordia took the lead by three, 24-21. On set point, Queary set Armstrong up for the attack and Armstrong killed it to cut the lead to 24-22.
With a second set point looming, Tori Pellerito (FR/Macomb, Mich.) came up big with a service ace followed by a CUAA attack error to tie the set at 24-24. The teams traded points as they were tied at 25 and 26 before LTU was able to string together two points for the match win, 28-26. Alisha Stidam (SO/Barrie, Ontario CAN)'s kill sealed the win.
Lawrence Tech is back on the court when they travel to 20th-ranked Lourdes University (Ohio) on Wednesday, October 14 at 7 p.m.
