SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological University (LTU) women's soccer team fell 2-1 in overtime to Aquinas College (Mich.) on Wednesday afternoon.
Lawrence Tech (4-6, 1-2 WHAC) opened the scoring when Lisa Zaffina (SR/Waterford, MI) chipped it in over Aquinas' goalkeeper, Lindsay Armstrong, in the 24th minute. The 1-0 lead held until the 64th minute, when Casey Westveer equalized on an unassisted goal.
The Blue Devils were outshot in regulation, 32-6 as neither team was able to score the game-winner in regulation.
In the overtime period, Aquinas won the game on a Mariah Otolski goal with an assist from Allison VanPatten in the 93rd minute.
Lawrence Tech's Heather Derstine (JR/Midland, MI) broke her own school record with 20 saves on 22 shots on goal. Claire Huddas (SR/Canton, MI) finished the game with two shots on goal.
LTU is back in action on Saturday, October 10 at 7 p.m. when the Blue Devils travel to Adrian, Mich., to face No. 17-ranked Siena Heights University (Mich.) on Dr. Mike and Lynne Dawson Field.
