SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological University (LTU) women's soccer team is back in action after a 17 day layoff, traveling to Goshen, Ind. for two games this weekend. The Blue Devils face host Goshen College (Ind.) on Friday night, September 11 at 7 p.m. On Saturday, LTU faces University of Saint Francis (Ind.) at noon.
Lawrence Tech (1-1) opened the season with a 4-1 win over Bethel University (Ind.) on August 19 and followed that with a 3-0 loss at home against Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) on August 25. LTU's Hannah Huff (SR/Waterford, MI) and Nicole Propst (JR/Warren, MI) have a goal and five shots each through two games this season. Freshman Ashley Jamison (FR/Capac, Mich.) scored a goal and recorded two shots in her first two collegiate games.
LTU goalkeeper Heather Derstine (JR/Midland, MI) has started both games, making 10 saves while allowing four goals.
Goshen (3-1) defeated Purdue Calumet (Ind.) 4-0 on Tuesday, September 8 behind four saves from Natalie Thorne. Melanie Drinkwater leads the Maple Leafs with four goals, while Anneliese Baer has three goals and three assists through four games. Baer ranks 20th in the NAIA in total assists and 28th in total assists per game (0.750). Thorne has started all four games in goal for Goshen, allowing three goals on 13 saves.
Saint Francis (3-1) fell to fellow WHAC foe Cornerstone University (Mich.) 6-2 on Wednesday in Grand Rapids, Mich. Ashley Reed made six saves, allowing five goals in 75 minutes of play. Heather Jones finished the game with one goal and one assist on two shots on goal.
Jones has team high eight points - three goals, two assists - to lead the Cougars. Kristin Strout has recorded three goals in four games. Reed has started two games in goal, making 13 saves while allowing seven goals.
