DEARBORN, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological University (LTU) women's volleyball team won its first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) match of the year as they defeated University of Michigan-Dearborn 3-0 (26-24, 25-19, 25-18) in Dearborn, Mich. on Wednesday night.
Lawrence Tech (4-14, 1-4 WHAC) built a 7-5 lead following a couple kills from Alisha Stidam (SO/Barrie, Ontario CAN). Michigan-Dearborn responded with a 10-2 run to take a 15-9 lead. LTU battled back to take the lead at 21-20 as the teams traded points down the stretch with the Blue Devils coming out on top, 26-24.
In the second set, LTU jumped out to 13-6 lead following five straight serves from Makenna Strunk (FR/Northville, Mich.) including an ace. The Blue Devils extended the lead to 21-15 en route to a 25-19 set win, giving LTU a 2-0 lead.
The third set went back-and-forth to start, before Lawrence Tech went on a 7-1 run to take a 10-5 lead. Michigan-Dearborn cut the lead to 14-13, but the Blue Devils scored six straight points - the last three on kills from Mary Armstrong (SR/Commerce Twp, MI) - to give LTU a 20-13 lead.
Lawrence Tech went on to win the set 25-18, and secure the win.
Armstrong led the Blue Devils with 16 kills followed by Stidam with 11. Strunk finished the game with two service aces, two assists, and three kills. Josie Queary (JR/Midland, MI) recorded 30 assists and is now just five assists shy of 2,500 career assists.
LTU is back on the court September 23 against Indiana Tech in Southfield at 7 p.m.
