HUNTINGTON, Ind. - The Lawrence Technological University (LTU) women's soccer team fell to Huntington University (Ind.) in overtime, 2-1, on Monday, September 21 at King Stadium in Huntington, Ind.
Lawrence Tech (3-4) was outshot 38-9, including 20-7 in shots on goal as Heather Derstine (JR/Midland, MI) made 18 saves in the 2-1 overtime loss. Derstine now holds the LTU record for saves made in a game (18). Katelyn Watson (SR/Canton, MI) held the previous record with 16 saves against Madonna on October 17, 2012.
The Blue Devils lit the scoreboard first as Lisa Zaffina (SR/Waterford, MI) made it 1-0 in the 74th minute, but Huntington was quick to equalize as Brandi Spear tied the game at 1-1 in the 79th minute.
In overtime, Becca Grimes of Huntington scored the golden goal giving the Foresters a 2-1 win.
Zaffina finished the game with a goal on two shots, while Alexandra Bryden (SR/Canton, MI) recorded an assist and a shot on goal.
Lawrence Tech is back in action on Saturday, September 26 at 12:30 when they face Concordia University - Ann Arbor (Mich.) at LTU Athletic Field in Southfield, Mich.
