SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological University (LTU) women's volleyball team defeated Siena Heights University (Mich.) 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Don Ridler Field House in Southfield, Mich.
Lawrence Tech (5-16, 2-6 WHAC) was led by Jessica Frakes (SR/Clarkston, Mich.) (14 kills), Josie Queary (JR/Midland, MI) (36 assists), Lexi Szymoniak (FR/Onaway, Mich.) (15 digs), and Mary Armstrong (SR/Commerce Twp, MI) with 12 kills. The Blue Devils finished the game with 43 kills, 108 total attacks, and only 17 errors.
LTU won the first set 25-20, but dropped the second set 25-16 to Siena Heights as they evened the match at 1-1. In the third set, Lawrence Tech took a 10-6 lead but Siena Heights fought back to tie it at 18-18. The Blue Devils used a 7-1 run to close the set out 25-19 and take a 2-1 lead on the visiting Saints.
In the fourth set, LTU jumped out to another 10-6 lead, this time holding the Saints off and expanding the lead to 21-12. The Blue Devils cruised to the end of the set, winning it 25-16 and taking the match 3-1.
It was just the second win over Siena Heights in program history, with LTU having won two of the last three matches. The Saints defeated the Blue Devils earlier this season 3-0 at the Concordia Classic in Ann Arbor.
Lawrence Tech is back on the court, September 30 at 7 p.m. when they welcome Marygrove University (Mich.) to Don Ridler Fieldhouse.
