SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological University (LTU) women's soccer team dropped its Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) opener 2-0 to Concordia University - Ann Arbor (Mich.) on Saturday afternoon at the LTU Athletics Field.
Lawrence Tech (3-5, 0-1 WHAC) fell behind early following a Julia Palushaj goal in the 20th minute that gave Concordia a 1-0 lead.
Heather Derstine (JR/Midland, MI) made 16 saves on 18 shots on goal, marking the second straight game of 16 or more saves in goal. Offensively, the Blue Devils were unable to get a shot on goal finishing the game with just three shots - all wide of the net.
Concordia (6-3-1, 1-0 WHAC) made it 2-0 in the 54th minute as Matea Smith took a Nina Palushaj pass past Derstine.
Derstine made seven saves in the second half, keeping the score 2-0 as Concordia took eight shots on goal in the final 45 minutes.
Claire Huddas (SR/Canton, MI) finished the game with three shots for the Blue Devils.
LTU is back on the pitch, Saturday, Oct. 3 at 12 p.m. when they travel to Marygrove University (Mich.) for the second WHAC game of the season.
