SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The No. 22-ranked Lawrence Technological University (LTU) women's basketball team defeated University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) 73-63 on Saturday afternoon in Southfield, Mich. The win matched the most wins in program history for a single-season (12).
Lawrence Tech (12-1, 9-1 WHAC) jumped out to a 6-1 lead after Christina Henry (JR/Lansing, Mich.) opened the game with three straight baskets. Allison Kitchen (JR/Clio, MI) made it 8-1, but a Racers run put the Blue Devils up 16-14 with 1:33 left in the first quarter. LTU headed to the second quarter up two, 21-19.
In the second quarter, the Blue Devils extended the lead to 10 points, 36-26 following an Alex Ruster (SO/Warren, MI) three and two free-throws from Kitchen. Henry gave LTU a 40-28 lead at halftime as she hit a layup and was fouled.
Lawrence Tech built its lead to 18 to open the third quarter, 46-28 following another Kitchen layup with 8:39 on the clock. LTU built its lead to 23 points, 60-37, following a Haley Walkowski three to end the quarter. The Blue Devils held the Racers to just nine points in the quarter.
LTU took a 26 point lead with 6:01 left in the game, but UNOH did not wilt as they chipped it all the way down to nine points, 72-63 with 14 seconds left on the clock. The Blue Devils went 1-for-2 at the line to seal the win 73-63.
Kitchen led the way for LTU with 18 points and seven steals. Henry added 14 points and four rebounds, while Autumn Whirley (FR/Eaton, Ohio) finished with eight points off the bench. Lawrence Tech shot 43.1 percent from the field while holding the Racers to 38 percent from the game.
Lawrence Tech travels to Grand Rapids, Mich. for a top 25 matchup on Wednesday, January 13 at No. 6-ranked Davenport (Mich.) University for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
