SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's soccer team scored two unanswered goals in the second half to preserve a 3-3 tie against unbeaten Indiana Tech on Wednesday afternoon at LTU Athletic Field.
Lawrence Tech (5-2-2, 0-1-2 WHAC) trailed 1-0 at halftime as Roman Schindler booted past Max Jewett (FR/Sterling Heights, Mich.) from about 18 yards out. Jewett made three of his game high 11 saves in the first half to keep the score at 1-0.
In the second half, Indiana Tech scored in the 58th minute to take a 2-0 lead, but less than a minute later Nico Rbp (FR/Madrid, Spain) took a Ryan Resendes (FR/Windsor, ONT, Canada) pass to the back of the net to cut the lead to 2-1. The Warriors responded two minutes later with a goal from Brennan Cochran to retake a two goal lead, 3-1.
The Blue Devils did not wilt, scoring less than two minute later off a Nico corner kick that Tyler Gregory (FR/Livonia, Mich.) kicked home to make it 3-2. Jewett came up with some big saves in the second half to keep it a one goal game, giving LTU time to net the equalizer, which came in the 81st minute on an unassisted game-tying goal from Tyler Winningham (SR/Canton, MI).
The Warriors had chances in the final minute of regulation with two consecutive corner kicks, but the LTU defense stood strong to take it overtime.
In the overtime sessions both teams battled back-and-forth, but the Warriors had the advantage on shots on goal as Jewett continued to come up big to seal the tie.
Jewett finished the game with 11 saves while Nico led the way with two shots on goal.
Lawrence Tech is back in action on Saturday, October 8 at LTU Athletic Field against 5th-ranked Davenport (Mich.) University. Opening kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
