Blue Devils fall in opening round of WHAC Tournament, 3-0 to Siena Heights

ADRIAN, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's volleyball team fell to Siena Heights (Mich.) University 3-0 in the first round of the 2016 WHAC Tournament on Saturday afternoon in Adrian, Mich.

Lawrence Tech (18-17, 8-8 WHAC) opened the first set leading 6-3 and 14-10, but a 15-2 run by the Saints 25- 16 and take a 1-0 lead in the match. The second set opened the same as the first with LTU taking an 8-3 lead early on, but 7-0 SHU run gave the Saints a 10-8 lead. Siena Heights expanded the lead to 17-12, however Lawrence Tech battled back to cut the lead to one at 18-17. The Saints ended the set on a 7-2 run to take the set 25-19 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Siena Heights (21-11) trailed once again in the third set as the Blue Devils took an 11-6 lead, but the Saints didn't wilt with a 2-0 lead, battling back to tie the match at 15-15. LTU trailed at 21-17, but a quick three points put the match within reach at 21-20 before SHU closed the set out 25-21 to move on to the WHAC Tournament semifinals.

Lawrence Tech was led by Zakia Hunt (FR/Livonia, Mich.) with 11 kills and a .375 hitting percentage and only two errors on 24 attacks. Kristi Doherty (FR/Davison, Mich.) recorded 26 assists Briana Reum (JR/South Elgin, IL) added four block assists and six kills.

The loss ends the most successful season in LTU women's volleyball history as the Blue Devils finished the season with a winning record for the first time in program history as well as earning a berth into the WHAC Tournament for the first time.
