PONTIAC, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's soccer team defeated Rochester (Mich.) College 5-1 on Sunday afternoon in Pontiac, Mich.

Lawrence Tech (2-0) wasted little time to get on the board as Alvaro Garcia (SO/Palma, Islas Baleares, Spain) notched his first of the season just over three minutes into the game. He was assisted on the goal by Nico Rbp (FR/Madrid, Spain). The Blue Devils struck again less than two minutes later when Mateusz Gibiec (JR/Goleszow, Poland) found the back of the net to make it 2-0 LTU.

Rochester (0-1-1) scored five minutes later to cut the Lawrence Tech lead to one, 2-1. The Warriors fought hard to keep the game close, but Ryan Fernandez (SR/Rochester Hills, Mich.) took a cross and scored with under three minutes left in the first half to make it 3-1.

LTU outshot Rochester 11-7 in the first half, but Rochester edged them on corner kicks 4-3. Craig Martin (SO/Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, U.K.) made two saves, one stellar diving hand save to keep LTU in the lead.

The Blue Devils held possession most of the second half and they finally broke through in the final three minutes of regulation to take a 5-1 lead. Garcia notched his second of the game on a blast up the middle and Nico Rbp scored the second of his career off a Garcia pass that sealed the LTU win.

Martin started the game in net and finished with two saves and one goal allowed while Max Jewett (FR/Sterling Heights, Mich.) saw three shots on goal.

Lawrence Tech is back on the field September 1 at Ohio Northern University. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
