SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's soccer team defeated Concordia (Mich.) University - Ann Arbor 3-2 on Wednesday afternoon at the LTU Athletic Field.
Lawrence Tech (6-7-1, 3-3-1) and Concordia-Ann Arbor played to a scoreless draw after the first half as Rebecca Almandoz (FR/Palmiste, San Fernando, Trinid) made three saves.
The Blue Devils opened the scoring in the 56th minute as Lauren Wasiak (FR/Walled Lake, Mich.) took a Gillian Neubert (SO/Dearborn, Mich.) pass to the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Concordia responded less than two minutes later when Julia Palushaj made it 1-1 on shot from 30 yards out over Almandoz. Tia Lamie (SO/Portage, Mich.) responded three minutes later on a pass from Alayne Nyboer (SO/Grandville, Mich.) from just outside the 18-yard box to make it 2-1 in the 61st minute. The Cardinals once again responded with a goal in the 62nd minute to tie it at 2-2.
Sarah Trapp (JR/Plymouth, Mich.) broke the tie with a header in the 65th minute for the game-winning goal.
Almandoz finished the match with five saves while Nyboer finished with a team high three shots.
Lawrence Tech is back on the pitch when they travel to Lourdes (Ohio) University on Friday, October 20. Opening kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
