Sylvania, Ohio - The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's soccer team took on Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio for a 3-0 win. With the most wins in program history, this pushed them to a conference record of 8-0-1 and an overall record of 12-2-2, as they continue to sit atop the WHAC standings, three points in front of Madonna (Mich.) University.
Lawrence Tech's (12-2-2, 8-0-1) Mateusz Gibiec (SR/Goleszow, Poland) put LTU on the board with the first goal of the game from a loose ball in the box in the third minute, starting LTU with a 1-0 lead. LTU goalie, Max Jewett (SO/Sterling Heights, Mich.), was well protected, having to make only two saves the entire game.
With only three shots on goal, LTU's defense shut down the Gray Wolves' forwards completely. However, Lourdes goalie, Jose Cedillo, kept his team in the game as he made nine saves out of 12 shots on goal.
The Blue Devils had a barrage of shots in the second half , but it was Gibiec who got his second one the day with an assist from Ryan Resendes (SO/Windsor, ONT, Canada) to break the 65 minute scoring drought, giving the Blue Devils a 2-0 lead in the 68th minute. As the LTU continued to pepper Lourdes, Jaccob Sooy (SO/Bay Village, Ohio) got past the keeper for the final goal of the game in the 78th minute for a final score of 3-0.
Jewett finished the game with two saves and zero goals allowed. Nico Rodriguez-Bermejo (SO/Madrid, Spain) and Alvaro Garcia (SO/Mallorca, Spain) both paced the game with on the offensive side with seven combined shots on goal. Gibiec finished with two goals on four shots.
The Blue Devils take the road one last time this season for a match against the [RV] University of Northwestern Ohio (9-4-1, 6-2) Racers Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 3:00 PM.
