SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's volleyball team earned a 3-1 win over UM-Dearborn on Wednesday night at the Don Ridler Field House in Southfield, Mich.
Lawrence Tech (14-9, 5-3) lost the opening set 25-22, but rebounded to tie the match 1-1 after taking set two 25-15. The Blue Devils took a 17-9 lead on a kill by Varvara Gromakova (SO/Moscow, Russia) and nver looked back, taking the set 25-15.
In the the third set, LTU opened up a 16-10 lead on the Wolverines and extended the lead to 21-14. The Wolverines battled back to within two, 22-20, but LTU closed the set out 25-22.
UM-Dearborn (4-10, 1-7) did not wilt as they went point for point with Lawrence Tech in the fourth set. The Blue Devils led 23-20, but UM-Dearborn battled back to 23-23 and were tied six times, last at 29-29. Lawrence Tech closed the set out with a kill by Zakia Hunt (SO/Livonia, Mich.) to win the match 31-29.
Lawrence Tech finished the match with 55 kills and a .190 hitting percentage with 26 errors. Hunt led the Blue Devils with 15 kills and a .423 hitting percentage followed by Isabella McDonald (FR/Farmington, Michigan) with a .308 hitting percentage and 16 kills. Briana Reum (SR/South Elgin, IL) added 12 kills while Kristi Doherty (SO/Davison, Mich.) recorded 50 assists. Lexi Szymoniak (JR/Onaway, Mich.) finished the match with 20 digs while Hunt added four block assists.
Lawrence Tech is back on the court October 6 to face Goshen (Ind.) College in Goshen, Ind. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
