Blue Devils Close Regular Season with 3-0 Win at UM-Dearborn

DEARBORN, Mich. -- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's volleyball earned a 3-0 win over University of Michigan-Dearborn on Wednesday night in Dearborn, Mich.

Lawrence Tech (20-14, 8-6) finishes the regular season with the most wins in program history and qualify for the WHAC Tournament starting Nov. 4, time and team to be determined. The Blue Devils opened the match with a 25-21 win after trailing the Wolverines the 10-5 early in the set. Lawrence Tech battled back to tie the set at 11-11 and was than able to take a 20-17 lead. LTU closed the set taking five of the last nine points to seal the four point win and take a 1-0 lead.

In the second set, Lawrence Tech jumped out to a 10-1 lead, but UM-Dearborn battled back to within three, 23-20. The Blue Devils closed the set with a kill from Kristi Doherty (SO/Davison, Mich.) to win 25-21 and take a 2-0 lead in the match.

UM-Dearborn (9-16, 1-13) took a early 10-6 lead and expanded it to 15-9 and than 23-16 before Lawrence Tech was able to string together seven of the next eight points to tie the match at 24. The Blue Devils took their first lead of the set on a kill by Briana Reum (SR/South Elgin, IL) to put LTU up 25-24 followed by a match sealing ace from Leah Hall to complete the 3-0 sweep.

Zakia Hunt (SO/Livonia, Mich.) led the way for Lawrence Tech with nine kills and a .471 hitting percentage followed by Varvara Gromakova (SO/Moscow, Russia) nand Reum with seven kills each. Doherty recorded 32 assists, 10 digs, and four kills in the win.
