Blue Devils beat Concordia 3-2 moving on to WHAC Semifinals on Weds, Nov. 8

SOUTHFIELD Mich. - the Lawrence Technological University men's soccer team defeated Concordia University Cardinals 3-2 on a cold and windy Saturday afternoon. The win was the first postseason win in program history and now host the WHAC Semifinal match on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 1:30 p.m. They host Marygrove for a trip to the WHAC Tournament Finals

Lawrence Tech's (13-4-2) Chris Serwatka (JR/Troy, Mich.) scored the first goal of the game in the 19th minute off an assist from Michael Avila (SO/Toronto, ONT, Canada) to give LTU the 1-0 lead. With six shots on goal, Max Jewett (SO/Sterling Heights, Mich.) had four saves for the game, two in the first half and two in the second. The Blue Devils finished with eight shots on goal.

Concordia tied the game in the 40th minute from one-on-one situation between Jewett and Cardinals' Josh Posuniak. At the top of the second half, LTU stole the lead again with a header by WHAC Defensive Player of the Year Santiago Amigo (JR/Madrid, Spain). He received if off a corner kick from Serwatka in the 51st minute of the game pushing the lead to 2-1.

LTU finally secured the lead as Pablo Ripodas (SR/Navarra, Spain) passed to Ryan Resendes (SO/Windsor, ONT, Canada) for the goal and the 3-1 lead. Five other Blue Devils tried their shots for a total of 14 shots. LTU's Mateusz Geibec was given a yellow card resulting in the penalty kick for the Cardinals, cutting LTUs lead 3-2 in the 83rd minute of the game. Three yellow cards were also given to the Cardinals two of which resulted in a red card for Jeff Thomas.

The Blue Devils move on to the WHAC Semifinals on Wednesday, November 8 at LTU Athletic Field against Marygrove (Mich.) College.
