ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's volleyball team dropped their match at Siena Heights (Mich.) University 3-2 on Saturday afternoon in Adrian, Mich.
Lawrence Tech (8-7, 1-3) went up 1-0 after winning the opening set 25-22, but Siena Heights battled back to take the second set 25-19. The Blue Devils took a 10-7 lead in the third set, but the Saints cut the lead to one, 11-10.
Lawrence Tech then went on an 7-3 run to take an 18-12 lead off a Siena Heights error. Siena Heights tied the set at 20-20 after an 8-2 run of their own. LTU retook the lead at 23-21, but again the Saints battled back to tie it at 23-23. The Blue Devils closed the set out with two straight points to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
Siena Heights (13-1, 3-0) took an early 6-3 lead in the fourth set, however the Blue Devils came back to make it a one point game a 7-6. The Saints then went on an 11-3 run to take control of the set at 18-10. Siena Heights evened the match at 2-2 with a 25-15 win.
In the final set, the Blue Devils held the lead at 12-10, but the Saints closed the set with a 5-1 run to seal the 3-2 match win.
The Blue Devils committed 30 attack errors in the match, second most errors in a match this season to finish the day with a .181 hitting percentage. Lawrence Tech recorded more kills than the Saints, 72-57, but attack errors were 30-15.
Zakia Hunt (SO/Livonia, Mich.) finished the day with a team high 16 kills while Kristi Doherty (SO/Davison, Mich.) led the Blue Devils in total assists with 52 and hitting percentage at .348. Isabella McDonald (FR/Farmington, Michigan) added 13 kills as did Varvara Gromakova (SO/Moscow, Russia), but McDonald had a career high in total attacks at 60.
Lawrence Tech returns home on Wednesday, September 20 when they host University of Northwestern Ohio in the Don Ridler Field House. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
