Lawrence Tech Drops WHAC Opener at Cornerstone 2-0

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's soccer team fell 2-0 at Cornerstone (Mich.) University in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Lawrence Tech (3-5, 0-1) had three opportunities in the opening 25 minutes, but were unable to capitalize as Mikayla Johnson made three saves to keep the game deadlocked at 0-0. Rebecca Almandoz (FR/Palmiste, San Fernando, Trinid) followed with two saves of her own for LTU, but a loose ball got placed over the keepers head for a 1-0 CU lead in the 39th minute. Two minutes later, the Golden Eagles made it 2-0 off a one-timer from a corner kick.

The Blue Devils out shot Cornerstone in the second half, 6-3 on SOG, but were unable to find the back of the net. Almandoz made three saves in the second half.

Tia Lamie (SO/Portage, Mich.) lead Lawrence Tech with six shots - four on goal - while Alayne Nyboer (SO/Grandville, Mich.) recorded three shots - two on goal. Almandoz finished the game with six saves.

Lawrence Tech returns to the pitch on Friday, September 29 when they host Siena Heights (Mich.) University on Homecoming weekend. Opening kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
