Blue Devils Take Early Lead, Tie Cornerstone 1-1 on Saturday Night

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University men's soccer team tied 1-1 with Cornerstone (Mich.) University on Saturday night in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Lawrence Tech (4-2-2) scored in the eighth minute when Nico Rbp (SO/Madrid, Spain) scored on a through ball from Jaccob Sooy (SO/Bay Village, Ohio). The game remained 1-0 until the 63rd minute when Richard Areche of Cornerstone scored off a throw-in, knotting the game at 1-1.

In the overtime periods, LTU failed to get a shot in the first 15 minutes of extra time. The Blue Devils did outshoot the Golden Eagles in the second 15 minutes, having five shots - two on goal.

Max Jewett (SO/Sterling Heights, Mich.) finished the match with four saves while his counterpart on Cornerstone recorded three saves. LTU outshot CU 12-9 and had an 8-6 advantage on corner kicks. Sooy recorded an assist in his first collegiate start.

The Blue Devils are back on the pitch Wednesday, May 20th when they host Marygrove (Mich.) College in the Mustangs final appearance in Southfield, Mich. Opening kickoff is set for 3:30 pm at LTU Athletic Field.
