SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - A final moments surge could not propel the Lawrence Technological University women's soccer team to beat Indiana Institute of Technology Warriors, where the Blue Devils lost 2-1 on October 13.
Remaining scoreless in the first half, LTU (5-7-2, WHAC 2-4-1) couldn't not defeat the Warriors (4-10-0, WHAC 3-4-0) despite Sarah Trapp (SR/Plymouth, Mich.)'s 76th minute goal, from an assist from Laura Silverman (SO/Rochester Hills, Mich.). The Warriors scored both of their goals early, one from Kayla Saffran in the first three minutes of the game, and one by Kristen Roe 30 minutes later. Goalie Rebecca Almandoz (SO/Palmiste, San Fernando, Trinid) had 12 saves during the game and had a shutout in the second half.
LTU trailed the entire game in all the offensive stats, only getting eight shots off, five of which were on goal versus Indiana's 19, 14 of which were on target. Lauren Wasiak (SO/Walled Lake, Mich.) and Trapp each took two shots on net, while Sidney McClay (FR/Romeo, Mich.), Randi Jannette (JR/Holly, Mich.), Lindsey Schupbach (FR/Rochester, Mich.), and Alayne Nyboer (JR/Grandville, Mich.) all took one each.
Up next for the Blue Devils is a match at home against Siena Heights University (Mich.) on Tuesday, Octotber 16 where the game is set for 7 p.m. The Saints only have one loss on their record, making them 12-1 overall and 5-1 in the WHAC where their only loss is against Madonna University (Mich.).
