SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - The Lawrence Technological University women's soccer team concludes their regular season with two games before finding out where they will end up in the WHAC standings for post-season play. Their first game is against Cornerstone University (Mich.) on October 23 at 7 p.m in Grand Rapids, Mich. Their second game is against the top team in the league, University of Northwestern Ohio (22) on Saturday, October 27 where they play in Lima, Ohio at 12 p.m.
LTU, after shutting out both Siena Heights University (Mich.) and Lourdes University (Ohio), moves to find that third win a row in Grand Rapids. The Cornerstone Eagles are 8-7 overall and 4-5 in the WHAC coming off three back-to-back wins against Lourdes University (Ohio), University of Michigan-Dearborn and a 4-0 win against Cleary University (Mich). The Blue Devils are 7-7-2 this season and 4-4-1 in the conference. This will be a crucial game as the Eagles are only one spot below them in the WHAC standings.
Leading the team in goals this year is Lauren Wasiak (SO/Walled Lake, Mich.) with six and right behind her is Alayne Nyboer (JR/Grandville, Mich.) with five, she also leads the team in assists with five. Katelyn Mather (SO/Bloomfield, Mich.) has three goals and Sarah Trapp (SR/Plymouth, Mich.) and Sidney McClay (FR/Romeo, Mich.) each have two. In goal for the Blue Devils, Rebecca Almandoz (SO/Palmiste, San Fernando, Trinid) has had a several games in the back of the net that were essential to the team's success. She currently fields an 80% save percentage and has 84 saves this season.
After the game against the Eagles, LTU has little downtime to prepare for the #1 seeded UNOH who is 10-3-3 overall and 8-1 in the WHAC. Their lone conference loss was against Aquinas College (Mich.) in overtime. The Blue Devils will be playing UNOH on the racer's senior day.
After these two games, October 31st is the beginning of the WHAC playoffs where the higher seeded team hosts. They are set to run until November 10th.
