Blue Devils Down Golden Eagles 1-0 in Final Home Game of Regular Season

SOUTHFIELD, Mich.- The Lawrence Technological University (Mich.) (11-5-1 | 8-2-0 WHAC) men's soccer team defeated Cornerstone University (Mich.) (8-8-1 | 7-3-0 WHAC) with a 1-0 score in the LTU Athletic Field. With this result, the Blue Devils are now placed in fourth place in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. This was a Pink Game, in which the Blue Devils showed their support for breast cancer awareness as the players used pink socks and coaches pink shirts.

The first half was scoreless. However, Lawrence Tech was very close to scoring on two occasions. The first one in the 25th minute when Alvaro Garcia (JR/Mallorca, Spain) headed the ball just outside the left post. The second close attempt was a shot by Santiago Amigo (SR/Madrid, Spain) that went over the crossbar. Lawrence Tech outshot the Golden Eagles 7-4 in this half, three of these shots were on goal.

The lone goal of the game arrived in the 71st minute when Tavin Ardell (FR/Grand Haven, Mich.) scored a screamer from the left edge of the area after receiving an assist from Nicolas Rodriguez-Bermejo (JR/Madrid, Spain) to give Lawrence Tech the 1-0 lead. This was Ardell's first goal as a Blue Devil, and Rodriguez-Bermejo's eighth assist of the season. The Blue Devils outshot the Golden Eagles 8-4 in this half as well, four of which were on goal. Lawrence Tech also led the corner kicks 5-3.

Goalkeeper Max Jewett (JR/Sterling Heights, Mich.) had three saves throughout the 90 minutes, one in the first half and two in the second. This is the seventh time the Blue Devil defense achieves a shutout game this season.

The Blue Devils will close the regular season in Lima, Ohio on October 27 at 3:00 PM when they visit University of Northwestern Ohio.
