Blue Devils Need Five Sets to Upend Indiana Tech 3-2 on Saturday Afternoon

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's volleyball team defeated Indiana Tech 3-2 (11-25, 25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 15-12) on Saturday afternoon in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Lawrence Tech (20-10, 13-5) struggled from the floor as they hit a paltry .043 but grinded out a five-set win with 37 kills and 29 errors. The Blue Devils scored just 11-points in the first set, but were able to get on track in the second to tie the match at 1-1 with a 25-22 win. Lawrence Tech took the 2-1 lead with a 25-23 set three win, but the Warriors tied it in the fourth set with a 25-20 win.

In the final set, the Blue Devils went up 2-0, but Indiana Tech tied it at 2-2 before Lawrence Tech went back up by three, 5-2. The Warriors battled back to get within one at 5-4 and tied the set at 10-10, but Lawrence Tech was able to take five of the next seven points to win the set 15-12 and take the match 3-2. Reinali Calisin (FR/Edmonton, Alberta) served three of the final five points as Indiana Tech struggled to put a set up and cost them the match.

Jessica Lodge (SO/Macomb, Mich.) led the way with 10 kills while Zakia Hunt (JR/Livonia, Mich.) added seven and two block assists. Kristi Doherty (JR/Davison, Mich.) recorded 28 assists and 12 digs - which now puts her over 1,100 career digs. She is closing in on 3,000 career assists with two regular season matches remaining. Alysha Vipushan (FR/Tecumseh, Ontario) led the team in digs with 17 and had two assists.

Lawrence Tech is back on the court Wednesday, Oct. 31 when they host Madonna (Mich.) University on senior night. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
