SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's volleyball defeated Madonna (Mich.) University 3-1 (17-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-19) on Senior Night at Don Ridler Field House. The win was the program's 21st win of the season - a program record - and first win over Madonna in 13 matches, sending seniors Brittany Schmidt (SR/Richmond, MI), Dacey Cook (SR/Potterville, Mich.), Johana Klose, Brenna Quinn (SR/Bucyrus OH), and Lexi Szymoniak (SR/Onaway, Mich.) off as the the lone class to have wins over Madonna, Cornerstone, and Lourdes.

Lawrence Tech (21-10, 14-5) had senior night before the tip, leading to a sluggish start as the Blue Devils hit .059 from the attack and had 10 errors in a 25-17 first set loss. In the second set, Lawrence Tech came out on fire, scoring six straight points after falling down 2-1 to take a 6-2 lead on Alysha Vipushan (FR/Tecumseh, Ontario)'s serve. The Blue Devils extended the lead to 12-4 on a kill from Brittany Schmidt. The Crusaders did not wilt, coming back to winin six at 22-17 before Lawrence Tech's Varvara Gromakova (JR/Moscow, Russia) sealed the set with with a kill, 25-20.

Madonna (22-10, 11-8) opened the third set with a 4-1 lead and led at 17-12, but Lawrence Tech slowly cut the lead to one at 20-19 as Cook got the kill. The Crusaders went back up by two points at 22-20, but the Blue Devils tied it at 22-22 with a kill from cook and took a 23-22 lead on a Madonna error. Lawrence Tech closed the set out with a kill from Isabella McDonald (SO/Farmington, Michigan) and a block by Cook and Gromakova for a 25-23 win.

In the fourth set, Lawrence Tech and Madonna went back-and-forth with nine ties, the last at 16-16. The Blue Devils won nine of the next 12 points to take the set 25-19 and win the match 3-1.

Schmidt led the way on senior night with 15 kills and a .250 hitting percentage followed by McDonald with 11 kills and a .226 hitting percentage. Kristi Doherty (JR/Davison, Mich.) added five kills with 41 assists and nine digs. Schmidt added a team high 14 digs while McDonald added six block assists.

The Blue Devils wrap up the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 3 at Siena Heights (Mich.) University at 5 p.m.
