SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University women's volleyball team swept Concordia (Mich.) University - Ann Arbor 3-0 (25-8, 25-16, 25-21) on Friday night in Southfield, Mich.

Lawrence Tech (14-6, 8-3) trailed 4-3, but a 12-1 run gave the Blue Devils a 17-5 lead as Varvara Gromakova (JR/Moscow, Russia) and Brittany Schmidt (SR/Richmond, MI) served 12 of the 13 points. Jessica Lodge (SO/Macomb, Mich.) recorded three kills in that run with Zakia Hunt (JR/Livonia, Mich.) adding three as well. Schmidt served seven straight during the run with two kills. Lawrence Tech went on to win the set 25-8. Kristi Doherty (JR/Davison, Mich.) recorded 11 assists and had a block assist in the set.

Concordia (1-15, 0-11) opened the second set with a 5-1 lead, but the Blue Devils battled back to tie it at 8-8 on two service aces from Schmidt. Lawrence Tech went up 17-11 following kills from Lodge, Gromakova, and Dacey Cook (SR/Potterville, Mich.). Cook also recorded a solo block during that run to take a six point lead. Cook finished the match with four blocks. The Blue Devils closed the set out with four straight points as Gromakova served the final three points including an ace to make it 24-16. A CUAA error gave Lawrence Tech a 25-16 set two win.

In set three, Lawrence Tech trailed the Cardinals 8-3 and 15-9 before mounting a comeback with nine of the next 11 points to take an 18-17 lead. Doherty started the run with three straight serves including an ace and a pair of kills from Gromakova. Cook closed the set with a block to seal the 3-0 win.

Lawrence Tech was led by Jessica Lodge with 10 kills and .280 hitting percentage while Schmidt added nine kills and Gromakova finished with eight kills. Doherty recorded 32 assists and five digs with two block assists.

The Blue Devils are back in action on Wednesday, October 10 when they travel to Dearborn, Mich. to face UM-Dearborn at 7 p.m.
